Innovation in Anesthesiology and Pain Management
- (A) Acute and Chronic Pain and Novel Therapeutic Strategies. Study of the factors involved in acute postoperative pain and its chronification, including sex- and gender-related differences, as well as multimodal and longitudinal clinical evaluation of patients. This research line also includes the investigation of new alternatives for the treatment of pain and conditions refractory to conventional therapies, such as the use of botulinum toxin for head and facial disorders, ultrasound-guided infiltrations for myofascial pain and cervical pain, and neuromodulation techniques.
- (B) Perioperative Medicine and Postoperative Recovery. Research aimed at optimizing the perioperative process and promoting faster and safer recovery of surgical patients. This line focuses on enhanced recovery after surgery (ERAS) and prehabilitation programmes, as well as specific aspects related to perioperative fasting, dietary reintroduction, and the evolution of pain after surgery.
- (C) Innovation and Safety in Anesthesiology. Development and evaluation of new anesthetic and therapeutic strategies designed to improve patient safety and prevent or manage complications associated with anesthetic and surgical procedures. This line includes the study of the potential use of lipid emulsions for the early treatment of fat embolism, as well as research on anesthetic and analgesic techniques, peripheral nerve blocks, and ultrasound-guided procedures.
- (D) Clinical Simulation and Patient Safety. Research on the impact of clinical simulation and structured training in the prevention, recognition, and management of critical situations and adverse events in Anesthesiology. This line examines scenarios related to difficult airway management, medication errors, and local anesthetic systemic toxicity, as well as the human, cognitive, and behavioural factors that may influence healthcare professionals' performance in critical situations.
