The CREBA, example of transparency in animal experimentation
First transparency agreement on the use of animals in scientific experimentation, promoted by the Confederation of Scientific Societies of Spain (COSCE).
The Center for Applied Biomedical Experimental Research (CREBA) and the Biomedical Research Institute of Lleida (IRBLleida) are part of a group of 123 organizations that have signed the transparency agreement on the use of animals in scientific experimentation, promoted by the Confederation of Scientific Societies of Spain (COSCE). These organizations represent practically all of the Spanish sectors related to animal experimentation and include the most emblematic entities, both public and private.
In this way, and following the initiative of the United Kingdom, these institutions want to transmit with transparency to society the importance of controlled and rigorous animal experimentation, for the benefit of human and animal health. The experience in Spain has inspired a similar agreement in Portugal.
Yesterday the first annual report of this association was presented, in which it is revealed that the state is moving towards transparency in this area, since the 123 institutions that have already signed the agreement have opened the door to letting them know that they use animals, what and how they do it, and the benefits they expect to obtain. In this report, the activity of CREBA is an example of openness and transparency.
