The Neuroimmunology Group of the IRBLleida investigates nous biomarker for detecting early multiple sclerosis
Today, May 31, marks the World Day of Multiple Sclerosis, to raise awareness and campaign for all those affected by the disease
Lleida, May 31st, 2017
The newly created Neuroimmunology Group of the Lleida Biomedical Research Institute Dr. Pifarré Foundation (IRBLleida) is currently studying the possible causes of multiple sclerosis (MS) and investigates to discover new biomarkers that help doctors detect early the illness. Specifically, researchers study the involvement of mitochondria (organs found in cells and have an important role in the aging process) and oxidative stress as important components in the origin and evolution of the disease. Today, May 31, marks the World Day of Multiple Sclerosis to raise awareness and campaign for all affected people.
MS is an inflammatory, demyelinating disease (which destroys myelin, a substance that protects neurons) and autoimmune disease, which affects the central nervous system.
