Lleida, Juny 14, 2016
Manuel Sánchez de la Torre, researcher of the Group Translational Research in Respiratory Medicine at the Institute of Biomedical Research Foundation Dr. Lleida Pifarré (IRBLleida) and professor at the University of Lleida has been commissioned to deliver a lecture entitled "Lesson Young Researcher" at the 49th Congress of the Spanish Society of Pneumology and Thoracic Surgery (SEPAR), which has taken place in Granada from 10 to 13 June. In his lecture "Sleep apnea and cardiovascular disease: toward precision medicine," Sanchez addressed the relationship between the two diseases that have a major impact for society and a high consumption of health resources.
At the conference, researcher IRBLleida presented a model strategy for managing sleep apnea based on precision medicine. This new model takes into account the characterization of the phenotype of this condition, the share of new healthcare entities, incorporating diagnostic tools and treatment based on new technologies and simplified systems, and the incorporation of analysis variables for epigenetic its usefulness in the development of predictive models of clinical evolution.
The Prize "Youth Lesson" is an open call for researchers under 36 years have a remarkable scientific production. It also has significant research in the field of respiratory medicine and surgery, and specific merits with relevant publications and participation in projects and research grants. Sánchez de la Torre began his training at the University of Jaen and developed his doctoral thesis in the field of genetics at the University of Lleida. Later evolved under the direction of Ferran Barbé towards translational research in postdoctoral training conducted at the University of Chicago (USA), under the direction of David Gozal. He is currently coordinator of the Research Group Translational Medicine Respiratory IRBLleida, national coordinator of the research are in the Research Center in Red Respiratory Disease (CIBERES) and associate professor of the Department of Genetics University of Lleida. He has authored more than 35 publications indexed director of several doctoral theses and principal investigator of national agencies in competitive projects (Instituto de Salud Carlos III) and various scientific societies. Is Junior Editor of the journal European Respiratory Journal, reviewer for the National Agency for Evaluation and Prospective (ANEP) and scientific reviewer of many international journals.
Group Translational Research in Respiratory Medicine
The Research Group Translational Medicine Respiratory IRBLleida, led by Ferran Barbé, study the pathogenesis of cardiovascular complications associated with respiratory disorders, and also the relationship of the latter with cognitive deficits. Also, within clinical-epidemiological, assess new therapeutic indications and participates in the evaluation of diagnostic equipment.
