IRBLleida inaugurates its mural dedicated to the Lleida doctor Martina Castells Ballespí
The two artists who created the mural are the illustrators and animators Guada Amongero and Judit Santmartí from Lleida
The Institute for Research in Biomedicine of Lleida (IRBLleida) today unveiled a mural dedicated to Dr. Martina Castells Ballespí, the first woman to obtain a doctorate in medicine in Spain. In her honour, the Institute of Biomedical Research of Lleida (IRBLleida) with the collaboration of the Municipal School of Art Leandre Cristòfor have created a mural dedicated to the doctor that has been installed on the first floor of the Biomedicine I building, in the entrance hall of the Teaching Unit of the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Lleida and in the University Hospital Arnau de Vilanova of Lleida.
The two artists who created the mural are the illustrators and animators Guada Amongero and Judit Santmartí. The proposal was chosen through a participatory process at IRBLleida in two phases. First to choose the woman researcher to be honoured and then to decide which of the graphic proposals would finally be produced.
The activity is part of the International Day of Women and Girls in Science, which takes place on 11 February, and Women's Day, which is celebrated on 8 March.
