The 15th Research Conference of the Catalan Institute of Health awards the IRBLleida researcher Jessica Gonzalez

Breathing the future: challenges and strategies for research in respiratory diseases

The 15th Research Day of the Catalan Institute of Health awards the young researcher of the Institute of Biomedical Research of Lleida (IRBLleida), Jessica González, for her merits in publications, attraction of resources, knowledge transfer and leadership capacity. González is a physician at the Arnau de Vilanova University Hospital in Lleida and a researcher in the Translational Research in Respiratory Medicine research group.

Once again this year, the conference has brought together more than 200 professionals in a space to discuss and understand the challenges and frontiers in the field of research, share strategies and knowledge that can have an impact on health. As Josep Pomar, managing director of the ICS, said, 'This conference is a good opportunity to get to know and highlight the careers of people dedicated to research. It is a moment that coincides with the recognition of young talent, the trajectory of our professionals and the diversity of research that we have in our institution'.

The inaugural conference, 'Neutral studies: lessons of life', was given by Ferran Barbé Illa, territorial clinical director of chronic respiratory diseases in Lleida, director of the Translational Research in Respiratory Medicine Research Group at the Institute of Biomedical Research of Lleida (IRBLleida) and professor at the University of Lleida, recognised with an ICREA Academy.

Advanced therapies, precision medicine, the secondary use of data and artificial intelligence applied to the search for respiratory diseases were some of the most prominent topics.

The meeting also announced the winners of the 2024 call for the different Research Prizes, awarded by the Scientific Council of the ICS. In this edition, six of the eight awards went to women researchers. The Awards distinguish the significant contribution to the development of research in health sciences, with the aim of promoting and recognising high quality biomedical research, both preclinical and clinical, which is carried out at the institution and at the research institutes that are linked to it.
