Died Ernest Arenas, Lleida neuroscientist

Member of the IRBLleida External Scientific Committee

The IRBLleida regrets the death of the Lleida neuroscientist Ernest Arenas, director of the Laboratory of Molecular Neurobiology at the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm (Sweden) and member of the External Scientific Committee of the IRBLleida. Arenas was born in Lleida in 1962 and studied Medicine and Surgery at the University of Lleida. He then did his doctoral thesis at the University of Barcelona, under the supervision of Jordi Alberch. His research focused on dopaminergic neurons, stem cells and Parkinson's disease.

Although he spent most of his professional career in Sweden, he always maintained a strong link with Catalan and Spanish science. His critical and constructive spirit led him to participate as an external advisor in different institutions such as IRBLleida, contributing creative ideas that have allowed us to improve our research.
