IRBLleida organises 20 activities for ‘Research Night’ 2024

Registration is required for all activities through the website nitdelarecerca.irblleida.org

On Friday 20th September, a new edition of the Research Night will take place at the Institute for Research in Biomedicine of Lleida (IRBLleida). In this edition, the Institute has prepared 13 workshops, 3 informative talks and 4 guided tours to IRBLleida and a visit to the CREBA centre, which will take place throughout the week. Most of the activities will take place on Friday 20th from 17.00 to 21.00 hours. To attend any activity, everyone must register through the website nitdelarecerca.irblleida.org.

The aim of the European Research Night is to raise awareness of the work of researchers in a playful way and the benefits they bring to society, allowing people to become scientists for a few hours. This public event to popularise science, which will be held in a dozen Catalan cities in the last days of September, will take place at the IRBLleida from 16 to 20 September and at the University of Lleida (UdL) on Friday 20 September.

The activities will begin on Monday 16 September with a guided tour of the centre and a talk on 'Women in research in Lleida' to bring the figures of women researchers closer to the children of Segrià, to alleviate the differences in opportunities for approaching science between schoolchildren in rural and urban areas and to present science as an attractive field for the promotion of future scientific vocations.

The guided tours will be repeated until Thursday at different times. It will also be possible to visit the pig model research centre, CREBA, located in Torrelameu. Test your cardiovascular health' and "What does a veterinary assistant do in a place like CREBA" are other talks that will take place during the Research Night 2024.

Friday 20th will be the day when a large number of workshops will take place simultaneously. Workshops on the mission of the Biobank, artificial intelligence and biomedical research, cardiovascular health to find out how our heart beats, playing with proteins and density, becoming a criminal police officer, immersing yourself in the world of pH or enjoying tattoos and scientific make-up.

This 2024 edition of Research Night is possible thanks to the support of the 'la Caixa' Foundation and the Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology (FECYT). Lleida City Council is also collaborating in the organisation of the event.

The European Research Night is held every year on the last Friday of September in more than 300 cities in 30 countries across Europe. In 2024 it will take place on 27 September, but the IRBLleida has brought the celebration forward by one week so that it does not coincide with Lleida's main festival. Its aim is to bring research, innovation and its protagonists, the scientists, closer to the public in a fun way. Thus, all kinds of public, from schools, families and children to young people or adults of all ages, will be able to learn about and participate in the science of their territory through different activities such as workshops, talks, shows, experiments, astronomical observations and games.

The activity is possible thanks to the collaboration of the Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology (FECYT).
