Dermatologists from Lleida participate in the Euromelanoma 2024 campaign on skin cancer

This is a European initiative on the prevention and early diagnosis of skin cancer

Dermatology specialists at Arnau de Vilanova University Hospital (HUAV) and skin cancer researchers at the Institute for Research in Biomedicine of Lleida (IRBLleida), led by the head of dermatology at HUAV and lead researcher at IRBLleida, Rosa Maria Martí, will participate, once again, as volunteers in the Euromelanoma campaign in Spain, which will take place until 30 June. Dermatologists will carry out skin reviews to those who request it through the campaign website: https://euromelanoma.aedv.es/

The initiative is designed to promote awareness, prevention and early diagnosis of skin cancer in the European population. Every year around 1,000,000 cases of non-melanoma skin cancer are diagnosed in the world, causing around 65,000 deaths per year. In the last decade, melanoma cases, skin cancer with the worst prognosis, have increased by almost 50% and are numbered at 287,723 annual diagnoses worldwide. In Spain, every month, around 300 people are diagnosed with skin melanoma. The incidence rate of skin cancer has doubled in our country in recent decades.

There are several risk factors that predispose to the development of skin cancer. Anyone who is concerned about a stain on their skin can take a self-diagnosis test, available on the web, and, if they belong to a group of risk (people who have often burned due to the sun for leisure reasons, outdoor workers, athletes, people with light skin or with multiple frets, etc.), they can access an exhaustive review of the voluntary skin by a dermatologist.
