The IRBLleida, the Paeria de Lleida and Lleida's traders' organisations collaborate with the distribution of 5,000 bags to disseminate the role of science
This year, the bags include photographs and messages taken by IRBLleida staff
Knowing how the brain and muscles communicate, what is the endometrium and how endometrial cancer affects it, knowing which cells neurons need to function properly or seeing a motor neuron are the messages that can be found in the second campaign 'The role of science' promoted by the Institute of Biomedical Research of Lleida (IRBLleida), with the collaboration of the Paeria de Lleida and Lleida's business organisations. Thanks to the initiative, 5,000 bags, in 5 different models, will be distributed to Lleida's shops to promote the role of science. The campaign was presented today by the manager of the Institute of Biomedical Research of Lleida (IRBLleida), Eva López Truco, the councillor for Culture and Promotion of the City of Lleida, Pilar Bosch Vilana; the IRBLleida researcher, Sílvia Gras Artells; accompanied by representatives of Lleida's business organisations.
"With this initiative and the collaboration of the Paeria and the shopkeepers, you are helping us to reach the population to dispel myths and make ourselves known," explained IRBLleida's manager, Eva López Truco. Thanks to this campaign we will distribute 5,000 bags, in 5 different models, which will allow us to give a message about the importance of science and research", said the Councillor for Culture and Promotion of the City of La Paeria de Lleida, Pilar Bosch Vilana.
As a novelty this year, the bags include photographs from the first photography competition held at IRBLleida in 2022 and the messages have been created by the researchers, Sílvia Gras Artells and Sara Salvany Montserrat. "It is important to give value to scientific dissemination and to make the initiative more our own", explained the researcher, Sílvia Gras Artells.
Montse Eritja, president of the Eix Comercial Traders' Association, added that the first campaign launched last year worked very well, which is why they have continued with the collaboration. Also present were the president of the Bordeta Traders' Association, Xavier Orobitg, and the president of the Granados Traders' and Business Association, Dolores Garzón.
Following the success of the campaign developed in 2020 by the Scientific Culture and Innovation Unit of the University of Oviedo in collaboration with the Union of Traders of the Principality of Asturias, the IRBLleida, in an action also funded by the FECYT, promoted this campaign in Catalan in Lleida last year. This year the proposal has been taken up again thanks to the success of the previous call. It is one of the 12 actions of the IRBLleida's scientific dissemination plan to highlight the importance of biomedical research and the role of the IRBLleida in Lleida.
This activity is possible thanks to the collaboration of the Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology of the Ministry of Science and Technology.
For the second year, the campaign aims to raise public awareness of the importance of research, knowledge and scientific communication
