Successful participation at World Cancer Day
Organised by the IRBLleida and the Lleida Cancer Association
The World Cancer Day, organised yesterday on the occasion of World Cancer Day, which will take place on Saturday 4 February, was very well received by the public and patient organisations that filled the Aula Magna of the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Lleida.
The conference, organised by the Institute of Biomedical Research of Lleida (IRBLleida) and the Association against Cancer in Lleida, included a talk by researcher and disseminator Eduardo López Collado entitled 'Cancer: what, how and why', the round table 'Diagnosis: cancer. And now what?' with health research staff, a psychologist and witnesses and a final concert by the musicians Marta Bonet and Xavier Fillat.
The day also included the awarding of the postdoctoral talent grant from the Spanish Association Against Cancer to the IRBLleida researcher Anna Visa. The Association will contribute a total of 160,000 euros over 4 years to Dr. Anna Visa's gliomastoma project.
The main objectives of the Association's Research Grants are to support research talent to guarantee their job stability and that researchers develop talent in Spain, to promote clinical research to involve medical professionals in research and thus bring the results closer to patients, and to continue to support innovation with specific grants.
The conference was organised in collaboration with the Arnau de Vilanova University Hospital in Lleida and the University of Lleida.
