The researcher Xavier Gallart Palau, the first Spanish researcher of the last call for Miguel Servet contracts, joins IRBLleida
Awarded on the basis of curricular merit, leadership ability and international track record
The researcher Xavier Gallart Palau has recently joined the Institute of Biomedical Research of Lleida (IRBLleida), after being the first researcher in Spain in the last call for Miguel Servet contracts. The researcher is at the top of the list of the 39 grants awarded. The Miguel Servet Programme, awarded by the Instituto de Salud Carlos III together with the Ministry of Science and Innovation, is one of the strategic actions to promote the generation of scientific and technological capacities in research centres in the field of health.
Gallart holds a PhD in Neuroscience and throughout his career has specialised in the study of pathological cognitive ageing, neurodegeneration and dementias. His career includes almost seven years as a contract researcher at the prestigious Nanyang Technological University (NTU) in Singapore. The researcher, who is also a professor at the Autonomous University of Madrid (UAM) and the International University of Valencia (VIVO), leads the new research group +Pec Proteomics (+PPRG) at IRBLLEIDA, which focuses on the development and application of advanced clinical proteomics techniques. The aim of the group is, on the one hand, to discover new molecular mechanisms that lead brain tissue to neurodegeneration and, on the other hand, to develop new clinical strategies to identify and stratify the clinical population according to their risk of suffering specific types of dementia.
The Miguel Servet programme, evaluated nationally and internationally, aims to incorporate research personnel with an outstanding track record into research centres in order to strengthen the research capacity of the centre and encourage the creation of stable research groups.
