The researcher Marc Güell exposes his research on genetic humanization of pigs in the IRBLleida
An investigation that, in the future, could involve the transplantation of organs from these animals to humans
The researcher Marc Güell, principal investigator of the Research Group in Translational Synthetic Biology of the Department of Experimental and Health Sciences (DCEXS) of the Pompeu Fabra University, will give a session on genome editing using the CRISPR/cas9 technique. It will be tomorrow, February 12, at 12 noon, in the building of the Teaching Unit of the University of Lleida (located in front of the Biomedicine building that houses the Biomedical Research Institute of Lleida, IRBLleida). Güell, who was awarded last December with the 2018 National Talent Research Award of the Catalan Foundation for Research and Innovation (FCRi), will present his research on the genetic humanization of pigs. An investigation that, in the future, could involve the transplantation of organs from these animals to humans.
"During the last decade, our ability to modify the human genome has increased significantly, affecting biomedical research and medicine. Despite important advances, mammalian genome engineering still faces significant challenges," explained the researcher. Marc Güell is a researcher in Synthetic Biology at the UPF in Barcelona. Graduated in Organic Chemistry from the Ramon Llull University and doctorate in Biomedicine, he has also founded the technology companies Sbiomedic and eGenesis.
IRBLleida organizes different seminars with external professionals to publicize the research that the professionals of the institute are carrying out. The next seminar will be on Wednesday, February 19, with the researcher at the Autonomous University of Madrid, María Llorens.
