IRBLleida joins the activities of International Women's Day with the creation of a mural dedicated to the Lleida doctor Martina Castells

The Equality Commission has prepared a video starring research staff to break down stereotypes

Martina Castells y Ballespí, from Lleida, was the first woman to obtain a doctorate in medicine in Spain. In her honour, the Institute of Biomedical Research of Lleida (IRBLleida) with the collaboration of the Municipal School of Art Leandre Cristòfor will create a mural dedicated to the doctor that will be installed on the first floor of the Biomedicine I building, in the entrance hall of the Teaching Unit of the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Lleida and in the University Hospital Arnau de Vilanova of Lleida.

Once again, on 11 February, the International Day of Women and Girls in Science is commemorated and a multitude of activities are held to give visibility to the work of women working in STEM areas (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics). IRBLleida joins this initiative to create female references for girls and promote practices that contribute to achieving gender equality in the scientific field. This year, for the first time, IRBLleida is committed to an artistic representation carried out jointly with the association of former students of the Municipal School of Art Leandre Cristòfor, Niu Gremi. The mural will be unveiled on 8 March to coincide with Women's Day.

The IRBLleida Equality Commission has also prepared a video starring the Institute's research staff with the aim of breaking down stereotypes. The video will be available on IRBLleida's social networks.
